Generally I will listen to only classical music at home. Right now I'm investigating the contents of a six-pack CD of Julius Katchen playing all of Brahms' piano works (my favorite is this). Sometimes I'll hook up the laptop to listen to something heard at work.
At work I'll listen to jazz, or shoegaze, or classical music, depending on mood and time of day. Jazz is best in the afternoon and evening. Indian ragas for the evening as well.
When SXSW comes around, I switch to that, using it as my dose of alternative music for the year and listening to bands discovered then for the next several months. Last year I heard the band Houses accidentally, then grew to really like several of their songs. Ditto for Cheers Elephant. We'll see how things roll this year.
